This is a friendly, hands-on course where you can develop your pottery skills to a new level or experience hand-building for the first time. Through individual demonstrations and group tuition, Caron will assist you to realise your own ideas using your photos and drawings or you can follow her projects inspired by human and natural forms.
You will create a sculpture using clay modelling, coiling, extruding and slab making techniques then decorate your pottery using coloured slips, under glazes and natural oxides. Your finished artwork, up to 45cm will be once-fired to 1280C to enhance the surface decoration and ensure it is frost proof.
There will be visual stimulus around the studio and garden including ceramic and stone sculptures by your tutor Caron O’Rourke plus art books to browse through and inspire.
After the course your artwork will be carefully dried and stoneware fired, it will be ready for collection in three weeks. If you prefer to have your sculpture glazed, your work can be biscuit fired and additional studio time will be arranged for you to glaze your work. Sculptures can also be packed and shipped internationally by arrangement.
This course is limited to 6 people to ensure plenty of personal tuition and studio space.
